This paper seeks to assess the alignment between the early Christian visual tradition and the "fundamental features" and foundational ideals of the identity proclaimed by the first Christian movements. In response to the critical view that suggests a significant disconnection between the figurative language and the religious practices of ancient Christian communities, this study focuses on two key aspects: the centrality of the kerygmatic profession within early Christian visual culture and the intrinsically interpretative nature and typological function of this first figurative Christian culture. The repertoire of "manifestos of the Kingdom" found in the earliest Christian visual documents reveals the development of an extraordinary "codified hermeneutic" conveyed through images.

Abstract
This paper seeks to assess the alignment between the early Christian visual tradition and the "fundamental features" and foundational ideals of the identity proclaimed by the first Christian movements. In response to the critical view that suggests a significant disconnection between the figurative language and the religious practices of ancient Christian communities, this study focuses on two key aspects: the centrality of the kerygmatic profession within early Christian visual culture and the intrinsically interpretative nature and typological function of this first figurative Christian culture. The repertoire of "manifestos of the Kingdom" found in the earliest Christian visual documents reveals the development of an extraordinary "codified hermeneutic" conveyed through images.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
