"Una stanza tutta per sé"? Gli esordi della Tartaruga edizioni tra femminismo e lavoro culturale (1975-1982)

Established in 1975, a crucial year in the history of the Italian feminist movement, and linked to other groups in the international feminist network, La Tartaruga edizioni, found- ed by Laura Lepetit, building up a valuable catalogue managed to endure even when the season of militancy faded away. This chapter aims to investigate the beginnings of the activity and to focus on certain issues that emerge most sharply from this research: the decisive assertion of female authorship, the redemptive function of writing in the process of self-awareness and affirmation of the female identity, the creativity that marks contents and forms of the editorial work, the consistency and circularity of the choices – in which sui generis non-fiction writing, memoir, short story live in symbiosis in the catalogue and in the works themselves – but also the “open” character of the offering, sensitive to the interests and main issues of Italian culture in the 1970s, and finally, the willingness to state professionalism, above and apart from the reasons of activism.

Nata in un anno cruciale per la storia del movimento femminista italiano, il 1975, e legata ad altre sigle del circuito femminista internazionale, La Tartaruga edizioni, fondata da Laura Lepetit, riuscirà a sopravvivere anche quando la stagione delle lotte si spegnerà, costruendo un catalogo di pregio. Il capitolo si propone di indagare gli esordi dell’attività e di mettere a fuoco alcune questioni che emergono con più forza da questa indagine: il perentorio riconoscimento dell’autorialità femminile, la funzione salvifica della scrittura nel processo di autocoscienza e affermazione della personalità femminile, la fantasia che caratterizza contenuti e forme dell’azione editoriale, la compattezza e la circolarità delle scelte – in cui scrittura saggistica sui generis, memoir, racconto vivono in simbiosi nel catalogo e nelle opere stesse – ma anche il carattere “aperto” della proposta, sensibile agli interessi e ai temi salienti della cultura italiana degli anni Settanta, e la disposizione a ribadire il valore della professionalità, al di sopra e a prescindere dalle ragioni della militanza.
