This chapter mainly focuses on the beliefs and practices of the Italians from mainland Italy. The large populations of Italians in the United States are not a homogeneous group and vary according to acculturation, individuality, and the variant characteristics of culture. Italian Americans are concentrated in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California. Italian enclaves, or “Little Italy” areas, can be found in major cities throughout the United States.
