Internationalizing Higher Education in Japan: dealing with Plagiarism and Academic Integrity : A case study of a Human Sciences undergraduates in Japan

In the pursuit of a world-class status, Japan has been promoting a series of government-funded programmes for research and internationalization aiming at a comprehensive transformation of university governance in a global context. This pressure to improve its global competitiveness has brought about more attention on academic integrity, along with more information on academic malpractice and plagiarism. How are Japanese undergraduate students responding to such changing academic culture? This paper documents my own case as a foreign professor teaching at a Japanese university. The study draws upon direct experience with Japanese undergraduate students at Osaka University.
