The paper aims to investigate the iconography of Noah's Ark during the Middle Ages in the West by comparing the exegesis of the written source, the Book of Genesis, with the exegesis of visual sources. The research shows that textual and visual exegesis follow independent channels. It emerges that iconography tends to adhere to established patterns, merely adding or subtracting connotative details.
