The restoration project of the Coccapani’s pottery workshop in Calcinaia (Valdarno, Pisa), allowed to study for the first time and in depth one of the most widespread ceramic production in the pisan territory in the late 17 th century to the early 20 th century. Thanks to the documents already known and the identification of other unpublished sources, on the basis of the large amount of production wasters and firing supports recovered in stratigraphic investigations and the study of the kilns structures during the restoration of the complex, it was possible to define the processes and ways of production, the types and chronology of ceramics. The pottery workshop of Calcinaia thus become a particularly important case for the simultaneous opportunity to study the mobile materials (the various types of wasters etc.), architecture (the kilns), written sources (the history of the potters and of their manufacture) in order to reconstruct the history of a family and its relationship with the local community in modern era. Moreover, the entire renovation project and the musealization of the productive complex and of the mobile finds has been designed to add value to this piece of history for the small community of Calcinaia, returning it to the older citizens, who have some memory of the last phases of the manufacturing activity, but also making it known to its young citizens.

Abstract
Moreover, the entire renovation project and the musealization of the productive complex and of the mobile finds has been designed to add value to this piece of history for the small community of Calcinaia, returning it to the older citizens, who have some memory of the last phases of the manufacturing activity, but also making it known to its young citizens.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
