I liberti nella vita politica dei centri locali dell’Impero romano: esempi dalle colonie di età cesariana

The paper aims at exploring freedmen’s political rights in communities from Italy and Roman provinces between the late Republic and the early Empire. In general, freedmen were not allowed to hold magistracies, whereas they normally have the right of vote. This rule seems not to apply in Caesar’s colonies, where epigraphical documents refer to freedmen holding public offices. The study will analyse some cases of freedmen’s local careers in the light of Caesar’s colonial policy.
