Dento facial deformities frequently result in significant aesthetic and functional discomfort for patients Consequently, there has been an increase in the demand for orthognathic surgery as a corrective measure Contemporary surgical techniques are now capable of correcting facial features in three dimensions However, those who undergo these complex therapies, especially for aesthetic reasons, desire the result to be stable over time In this study, the authors examine the scientific literature to identify the factors that may influence stability A comprehensive understanding of these factors is crucial for the planning of surgical procedures and the provision of accurate information to patients regarding the potential outcomes and limitations. It is essential to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of these factors in order to determine the most appropriate treatment strategy and to ensure that the patient is fully informed and understands the proposed course of action Even though it is not uncommon for patients to accept certain risks in order to optimize their aesthetic outcome, the decision should be made with full awareness and preceded by comprehensive information
