The essay intends to discuss a series of beliefs around immigration: the idea of an extraordinary increase in the presence of foreign immigrants, caused by the landings from the sea of Africans in search of asylum; of a Europe besieged by massive waves of refugees; of a direct link between emigration and poverty; of a possible response tothe phenomenon, in a short time, by sending aid and promoting the economic development of the countries of origin. The thesis advanced is that the idea of an ongoing invasion by immigrants from poor countries is unfounded.
