Mónica Albizúrez, a Guatemalan writer, has lived in Hamburg, Germany, for over a decade. Her last published work, La letrada (F&G Editores, 2023), won the first Guatemalan Biennial Novel Prize “Terrena” in 2022. A few years earlier, her first novel, Ita (F&G Editores, 2018), was a finalist in the BAM competition, while her poetry collection, Sola (Editorial Palo de Hormigo) was published in 2002. For the last few years, she has been a columnist and contributor to Gaceta and Plaza Pública. In addition to being a writer, Mónica Albizúrez is a lawyer and a PhD in Latin American Literature. She is a Professor of Spanish and Literature in Latin American Studies at the University of Hamburg, where she is also an invited researcher in the Department of History. As an academic she has published diverse articles in the fields of nineteenth-century Latin American literatures, Central American women writers and intellectuals, and migration and literary expression.

Abstract

Mónica Albizúrez, a Guatemalan writer, has lived in Hamburg, Germany, for over a decade. Her last published work, La letrada (F&G Editores, 2023), won the first Guatemalan Biennial Novel Prize “Terrena” in 2022. A few years earlier, her first novel, Ita (F&G Editores, 2018), was a finalist in the BAM competition, while her poetry collection, Sola (Editorial Palo de Hormigo) was published in 2002. For the last few years, she has been a columnist and contributor to Gaceta and Plaza Pública. In addition to being a writer, Mónica Albizúrez is a lawyer and a PhD in Latin American Literature. Mónica Albizúrez, escritora guatemalteca, reside en la ciudad alemana de Hamburgo desde hace más de una década. Su última publicación, La letrada (F&G Editores, 2023) resultó ganadora en la I Bienal Guatemalteca de Novela “Terrena” en 2022. Pocos años antes, su primera novela, Ita (F&G Editores, 2018), fue finalista en el concurso BAM Letras; mientras que su poemario Sola (Editorial Palo de Hormigo), fue publicado en 2002. Desde hace algunos años es columnista y colaboradora de Gazeta y Plaza Pública.1 Además de escritora, Mónica Albizúrez es abogada y doctora en literatura latinoamericana. Es pro- fesora de español y literatura en el área de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Hambur- go, donde también ha sido investigadora invitada en el Departamento de Historia. Como académica, ha publicado artículos en diversas líneas temáticas, como las literaturas latinoamericanas del siglo XIX; las mujeres escritoras e intelectuales centroamericanas; y la migración y sus expresiones literarias.
