The project described here aims to assist students in the Faculty of Agriculture with their mathematics exams, a common obstacle in STEM degrees. Students find the multitude of formulae daunting, which hinders exam success. The “Re-Formulation” project addressed this problem by allowing students to create customized, teacher-controlled formula sheets. Structured meetings with students helped design sheets that were functional and suited to their learning styles and then were provided official validation and justification. An anonymous post-course questionnaire revealed a reduction in exam anxiety and an increased sense of competence. Additionally, out of 180 participants, 111 passed the final test. The interviews revealed that the process of creating the paper inadvertently facilitated a deeper understanding of the material. Ultimately, the project not only enhances learning but also encourages self-regulation and emotional reflection, which benefits STEM students.
