This chapter outlines the role of Shakespeare in Italian radio and in its development as a national site of cultural production, while considering Shakespeare’s shifting position in the Italian literary canon. More specifically, this chapter aims to focus on the growth of Italian radio drama through Shakespeare, as well as the role that the promotion of the “Bard” as a brand has exerted on the development of Italian radio.
