The chapter retraces the history of the Compagnia dell'Elfo (today Teatro d'arte contemporanea Elfo Puccini), focusing in particular on the performances of the years 1973-2023 linked to German-language literature. After an introduction dedicated to the germanic origins of the term "elf", the contribution investigates the non-conformist staging of authors from the "classical" repertoire (from Goethe to Büchner and Wedekind), and then focuses on 20th-century dramaturgy. R.W. Fassbinder, the true nume tutelary of the company, but also Thomas Bernhard and Heiner Müller are among the reference authors of a theatrical aesthetic that renews the Italian scene of the last few decades and that also reaches, in the last period, to Bertolt Brecht.

Il capitolo ripercorre la storia della Compagnia dell'Elfo (oggi Teatro d'arte contemporanea Elfo Puccini), soffermandosi in particolare sugli spettacoli legati alle letterature di lingua tedesca negli anni 1973-2023. Dopo una introduzione dedicata alle origini germaniche del termine "elfo", il contributo indaga le messinscene anticonformiste di autori del repertorio "classico" (da Goethe a Büchner a Wedekind), per poi focalizzarsi sulla drammaturgia del Novecento. R.W. Fassbinder, nume tutelare della compagnia, ma anche Thomas Bernhard e Heiner Müller sono fra gli autori di riferimento di una estetica teatrale che innova la scena milanese e italiana degli ultimi decenni e approda, nell'ultimo periodo, anche a Bertolt Brecht.
