Manuscript London, British Library, Additional 36614 (L), is one of the oldest witnesses of the First and Second Continuations of Chrétien de Troyes’s Conte du Graal and one of the only two witnesses of its Bliocadran prologue, follo- wed by an unrelated text, a version of the Vie de sainte Marie l’Égyptienne. L has been copied by several scribes. The article studies the codicological and palaeographical structure of the manuscript, along with the linguistic and philological evidence that allows to establish that the Continuations are to be considered later additions to a codicological unit that was originally meant to contain only Chrétien’s text.
