People with blindness or visual impairments (BVI) use public transport to be independent in daily travel. The lack of this autonomy in travel can have an impact on sustainable mobility. This study investigates the independent mobility of people with BVI. First, a review of commercial technologies and research contributions aimed at supporting the independent mobility of people with BVI is described. Then, a planned experimental investigation is described to identify the factors contributing to the independent mobility of people with BVI.

Abstract

People with blindness or visual impairments (BVI) use public transport to be independent in daily travel. The lack of this autonomy in travel can have an impact on sustainable mobility. This study investigates the independent mobility of people with BVI. First, a review of commercial technologies and research contributions aimed at supporting the independent mobility of people with BVI is described. Then, a planned experimental investigation is described to identify the factors contributing to the independent mobility of people with BVI.
