The following essay pretends to define the place of Zona en territorio del alba (Poe- sía 1946-1948), not only amongst the works of Eunice Odio but also within Costarrican avant-garde poetry. The previous is based on two aspects. Firstly, on biographical facts: her childhood and her first years of adulthood, especially the period of her lite- rary education; and secondly, on the character of the Poetics adopted by Odio along that book. The latter has allowed us to detail the surrealistic aesthetics she nourished from to evoke a sense of belonging, one that is tied to memories of her native land. Nevertheless, it is a contradictory projection of identity, not devoid of anguish, very different from the print of the “happy orchard” that had crystallized in previous literary discourses.

El presente ensayo pretende definir el lugar de Zona en territorio del alba (Poesía 1946-1948), tanto dentro de la obra de Eunice Odio como de la poesía vanguardista costarricense. Lo anterior se ha fundamentado a partir de dos aspectos. Primero, los elementos biográficos: la infancia y los primeros años de juventud de la poeta, es- pecialmente el periodo de su formación literaria; y segundo, el carácter de la poética adoptada por Odio a lo largo de dicho libro. Lo anterior ha permitido detallar la estética surrealista de la cual se nutre para evocar un sentido de pertenencia, muy ligado a remembranzas en su país de origen. Sin embargo, se trata de una proyección de iden- tidad contradictoria, no desprovista de angustia, muy distinta de la estampa del “feliz vergel” que se cristalizó en los discursos literarios precedentes.
