Fouling and passivation are the major drawbacks for the broad applicability of electroanalytical sensors, particularly those based on nanomaterials, especially in biomedical and environmental fields. The production of highly engineered devices, based on innovative and smart materials, ad-hoc designed for specific applications, is critical in overcoming the problem and accessing effective sensors. This article summarizes and reviews the Literature contents in the field, particularly focusing on the materials and techniques for electroanalytical sensing with self-cleaning and/or photo-renewable devices.

Abstract

Fouling and passivation are the major drawbacks for the broad applicability of electroanalytical sensors, particularly those based on nanomaterials, especially in biomedical and environmental fields. The production of highly engineered devices, based on innovative and smart materials, ad-hoc designed for specific applications, is critical in overcoming the problem and accessing effective sensors. This article summarizes and reviews the Literature contents in the field, particularly focusing on the materials and techniques for electroanalytical sensing with self-cleaning and/or photo-renewable devices.
