Studies conducted to date on the French Resistance and the closely related clandestine press have been based on an analysis of the themes conveyed by Resistance periodicals and the way in which clandestine newspapers were produced and distributed during the Occupation. However, little attention has been paid, either historically or linguistically, to the primary nature of the Resistance's clandestine press and what it really represents: a medium. This thesis project is part of the field of linguistic studies and aims to focus on the linguistic, stylistic, rhetorical and argumentative strategies used in clandestine periodicals to disseminate content that contrasts with the dominant official discourse. The aim of this thesis is therefore to place itself in the intermediate space between the major historical studies of the French Resistance and the existing analyses of the clandestine press, by proposing a contribution to what has not yet been sufficiently considered. The analysis of the linguistic, argumentative and rhetorical strategies opens the possibility of completing from a linguistic point of view, insufficient to date, the studies on memory and the Resistance. The study of the as yet little-explored field of language also provides a better understanding of the aims of the Resistance and the contradictions that characterised one of the most troubled periods in contemporary history, and thus makes a necessary contribution to a subject that continues to occupy a prominent place in France's collective memory.
