El español en Italia

A very close link, dating back to ancient times and still noticeable in a wide spread of this language in different spheres, connects Italy and the Spanish language. From a sociolinguistic point of view, its presence is the result of the Latin American migratory phenomena that have particularly interested the Mediterranean country, making it one of the privileged destinations of the Spanish-speaking population in Europe. From a didactic point of view, its visibility is due to the success that Spanish is acquiring in the panorama of the acquisition of foreign languages in school, university, and non-formal education. In order to highlight the most salient aspects that can provide insight of who, where and how Spanish is spoken or learned in Italy, the contribution will explore both points of view.
