The paper surveys the overall genesis and editorial developments of Ginzburg's nonfiction writing, also dwelling on its critical reception. It identifies some salient features of the author's journalistic prose: the rejection and circumvention of the established public discourse codes, how she transitions from a personal perspective to a universal speech, elocution strategies, and the insistence on parental ties as a measure of human time.
