L’intelligenza artificiale che sorveglia ma non salva

The topic of A.I. is basically political. It is an area in which the need for regulation is perceived as even its absence is an expression of a precise political choice of laissez faire. Silvia Salardi reminds us that technology is not a regulating agent, but a possible means that one may decide to adopt, in certain sectors and in relation to specific activities, in order to achieve certain legal results. Keeping in mind this conceptual distinction between a regulating agent and a tool in the hands of those who have the power to regulate is particularly fruitful when dealing with the use of A.I. in the field of social and criminal control. A few brief hints through two case studies are proposed in order to understand what is at stake.
