All’ombra di Hegel. La filosofia del concreto di Whitehead

The paper investigates Whitehead’s philosophy of concreteness, by focusing on his debt towards Hegel’s thought and the differences with the latter. To reach this goal, the paper is divided into three parts, all grounded on a close examination of Whitehead’s writings. The first section clarifies to what extent Hegel has in- fluenced Whitehead, and what is the main difference from a methodological point of view. The second one introduces Whitehead’s and Hegel’s similarities, as the secondary literature has explored them, and shows how Whitehead’s philosophy of concreteness is not that far from Hegel’s one. The third section analyzes the reasons that Whitehead provides to refuse Hegel and idealism and illustrates how the topic of “feeling” represents a paradigmatic example of the transformation of Hegel’s dialectics on a realistic basis.
