n September 1904, the Kingdom of Italy was blocked by the first general strike in its history. A dental surgeon, Giovanni Gadola, was killed in Milan. He had tried to act as peacemaker during the break-in of some strikers in a club in the city center. His name was lost to history, but his remains are kept in the Cimitero Maggiore. The dramatic events of his death remind us that our acting for the good of others, be they are our patients or not, deserves to be offered, applied and remembered, at every opportunity.
