The paper deals with the communication around the topic of energy efficiency, when it concerns economic-legal aspects. These aspects are important for all citizens if they want or have to renovate or build their house and want to receive promotional funds or tax benefits. On the basis of a corpus of German and Italian texts (factsheets, guide-lines, specific sections of institutional websites), strategies of knowledge mediation and popularization are examined. These strategies may also lead to ambiguities, especially when considering images and photo-graphs. However, trust is generally ensured not so much by the com-plexity of the topic being reduced, but because the layperson, as a non-expert person, trusts the institutions.

Abstract

The paper deals with the communication around the topic of energy efficiency, when it concerns economic-legal aspects. These aspects are important for all citizens if they want or have to renovate or build their house and want to receive promotional funds or tax benefits. On the basis of a corpus of German and Italian texts (factsheets, guide-lines, specific sections of institutional websites), strategies of knowledge mediation and popularization are examined. These strategies may also lead to ambiguities, especially when considering images and photo-graphs. Der Beitrag thematisiert die Kommunikation rund um das Thema Energieeffizienz, wenn es um wirtschaftlich-rechtliche Aspekte geht. Diese Aspekte sind für alle Bürger wichtig, wenn sie ihr Haus sanieren oder bauen wollen bzw. müssen und Förderungen erhalten möchten. Auf der Basis eines deutsch- und italienischsprachigen Korpus aus statischen Texten (Merk- und Faktenblätter sowie Leitfäden) und dynamischen Texten (spezifischen Sektionen von Institutionen-Webseiten) werden Strategien der Vermittlung und Popularisierung untersucht, die auch zu Ambiguitäten führen können, insbesondere wenn man die bildliche Komponente betrachtet. Das Vertrauen entsteht aber im Allgemeinen nicht so sehr dadurch, weil die Komplexität der fachli-chen und fachsprachlichen Welt reduziert wird, sondern weil insbeson-dere der Laie als Nicht-Wissender oder Wenig-Wissender den Institutio-nen vertraut.
