Nuove prospettive dei cementi vetroionomerici nella pratica clinica = New perspectives for glassionomer cements in dental practice

OBJECTIVES. The aim of this study is to resume characteristics and indications of glassionomer cements and to evaluate their clinical effectiveness as restorative materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four clinical cases are reported to show the use of glassionomer cements in restorative dentistry. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS. Glassionomer cements are recent dental materials, as they were put into the market in the Seventies. They have been used for many years as restorative materials and fixing cements or for temporary fillings. Available literature and clinical results show that glassionomer cements are effective as middle-term restorative materials and in clinical situations where the use of composite resins could be difficult or impossible.
