Italian Youth and the Experience of Highly Qualified Migration to the United Kingdom

In the last six years, data on migration in Italy has shown a constant increase in the number of Italians leaving their home country. In 2010, approximately 40,000 Italians migrated and since 2011, this figure has steadily increased. According to the most recent figures, 114,000 Italians moved in 2017, compared with 82,000 in 2013 (Istat 2016). A number of factors have facilitated moving and relocating within Europe, including European education and training projects promoting young people’s mobility within the European Union. In the past few years, however, the mobility of one particular section of the European population seems to have been influenced by the economic crisis that severely affected Southern Europe.
