Examination of the report, only partially published, that James Caulfeild, known as Lord Charlemont, made of his voyage to Greece in 1749. The report on the island of Lesbos and the matriarchal character of its society is studied in particular. The influence that this report had on the study of ancient society is analyzed, above all on the work of Johann Jakob Bachofen "Das Mutterrecht" (1861).
Esame della relazione, solo in parte pubblicata, che James Caulfeild, noto come Lord Charlemont, fece del suo viaggio in Grecia del 1749. Si studia in particolare la relazione sull'isola di Lesbo e sul carattere matriarcale della sua società. Si analizza l'influenza che questa relazione ebbe sullo studio della società antica, soprattutto sull'opera di Johann Jakob Bachofen "Das Mutterrecht" (1861).
