Recordings of viva voce performances are part of the corpus of texts bearing witness to spoken Latin: among them, ‘didactic monologues’ such as the lessons of the grammarian Pompeius on Donatus’ Ars, and Ambrose of Milan’s Explanatio Symboli. Oral features are examined which surface in the Explanatio, a homily that has been taken down by an exceptor, and that has not undergone revision.
