A measurement of the ° decay of the neutron rich 68Ni nucleus using the reaction 68Ni + Au at 600 MeV/u has been made using the Fragment Separator at GSI and the RISING set up. Evidence for strength exceeding that related to the standard tail of the GDR is found in the region 10-11 MeV. This is the region of the pygmy resonance of the dipole nuclear response. An enhancement of the dipole strength in the same excitation energy region is also predicted by theory.
