The article identifies the traces of the praise that Gregory of Nazianzus addressed to himself in the famous eulogy he wrote for Basil the Great. It is a complex self-praise, composed according to the rules of ancient rhetoric, well known to Gregory, in a constant search for equilibrium with the requirements of the Christian faith. Far from being a mere formal exercise, therein it is possible to discern the seeds of a genuine autobiography.
