Social partners' involvement in unemployment benefit regimes in Europe

This study investigates the role played by the social partners in the development, implementation and monitoring of unemployment benefit regimes in the EU27 Member States and Norway over the last decade, with particular emphasis on the years following the financial and economic crisis of 2008. It gives a detailed picture of the characteristics of their involvement and participation in the system, while aiming to develop a wider understanding of the limits and potential of the different forms of interaction. In general, the role ultimately played by the social partner organisations in the face of economic crisis varies considerably according to the institutional factors defining their involvement and their ability to look for and grasp new opportunities for action.
