Implant placement in compromised sites has become routine in the last decades, thanks to different reconstructive possibilities such as guided bone regeneration, distraction osteogenesis, allografts, xenografts, and autogenous bone grafts. However, much controversy still exists as far as the more appropriate and reliable technique is concerned. This is mainly due to the frequently questionable quality of scientific information, which , despite its abundance, frequently lacks significant data, adequate design and/or follow-up.
