Quite recently, prompted by problems of ecol. and environmental control, virus international and national normalizing organizations have undertaken the prepn. of documents for the standardization of the redox potential (EO/R) measurements. EO/R has important (albeit insufficiently understood) correlations with the acidity index (the pH) and the reducing power index (the rH). This triad of electrochem. quantities-EO/R, pH, and rH-is revised in terms of EO/R vs. pH diagrams (Pourbaix's diagram) with the aim of best focusing the resp. phys. meanings and the functional interrelations as well as emphasizing the methodol. and reliability aspects, in view of a meaningful use in chem. and biol. areas.
