Implementing open source software governance in real software assurance processes

Open Source is giving rise to new methodologies, competences and processes that organizations have to investigate both from the technical and the managerial point of view. Many organizations are studying the possibility to adopt open source products or migrate their systems to open frameworks, even for mission-critical application. In this paper we discuss a roadmap for organizations that want to establish a formalized governance methodology for the management of the open source products, taking into consideration issues such as software quality and community reliability. The governance framework is designed to be included in a more complete software assurance system for open source software.
