After the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986, Europe has dealt with a high level of environmental radioactivity. Since insectivorous birds, like song thrushes (Turdus philomelos) and robins (Erithacus rubecula), migrate to our latitudes and nest in areas heavily polluted (Ukraine and Baltic Countries), they can be considered significant bioindicators of Cs-137 residual contamination. 73 birds (17 song thrushes and 56 robins) were examined for Cs-137 in the muscles and organs, which is a consequence of the Chernobyl accident. No macroscopic lesions were detectable in the birds and a low level of radionuclide concentration was found. At present, Cs-137 pollution in Northern part of Italy could not be considered a hazard for animal and human health

Abstract
At present, Cs-137 pollution in Northern part of Italy could not be considered a hazard for animal and human healthPubblicazioni consigliate
