Abstract

"Soy una creatura parásita de mí misma." [I am a parasitic creature of myself]. This is how the protagonist of Diamela Eltit's Fuerzas especiales (2013) describes herself. The novel portrays a dystopian regime that relies on corrupt forms of policing and biopower: after being evicted from society and even from their own bodies, the protagonists survive by prostituting themselves in an Internet café. In the context of individual annihilation and absolute defeat, thanks to the alternatives provided by mobile phones and computers, the digital space offers a counterdiscourse and becomes a place of resistance against the system, despite its alienating effects. Considering the novel as a work of science fiction, the article uses the theories of cybernetics, Haraway's Cyborg Manifesto , the context of video games, and Braidotti's posthumanism to deconstruct and "pixelate" the discourse of power deployed to control and exploit bodies.
