This paper analyses the evolution of two areas of the province of Bergamo following the introduction of an agro-industrial production, the fresh-cut produce, and studies the impact that this activity generates on a landscape that preserved some of the features of the rural tradition of the Po Valley. Fresh-cut produce extensively uses greenhouses in order to allow a continuous production as required by market and better to protect crops. However, greenhouses are deeply invasive, because they introduce alien forms and volumes in rural landscape. Through the analysis of statistical data and the observation of the orthophotographic images of the concerned areas, the study showed an underestimated problem about the sustainability of this agro-industrial production.

Abstract
This paper analyses the evolution of two areas of the province of Bergamo following the introduction of an agro-industrial production, the fresh-cut produce, and studies the impact that this activity generates on a landscape that preserved some of the features of the rural tradition of the Po Valley. Fresh-cut produce extensively uses greenhouses in order to allow a continuous production as required by market and better to protect crops. However, greenhouses are deeply invasive, because they introduce alien forms and volumes in rural landscape. Through the analysis of statistical data and the observation of the orthophotographic images of the concerned areas, the study showed an underestimated problem about the sustainability of this agro-industrial production.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
