An analysis of Swiss data has shown the health outcomes of employed single mothers to be simi-lar to those of employed mothers who live in couples. But it is not just in-come that has an effect on health but also education: Single mothers with a higher-level degree report better health outcomes. Employment appar-ently enables women in Switzerland to mobilize greater economic and non-economic resources and to offset the hardship of being a single parent with successes in other life domains.
