The paper investigates the role Karl Wolfskehl played in the early stages of the "Hölderlin-Rezeption" and, specifically, in the transition from variuos forms of rediscovery in late 19th-century Berlin to the Munich of the 'George Circle.' The great German-Jewish intellectual and writer acted as a veritable secret driving force behind the rebirth of interest in Hölderlin: a true "Ausstrahlungsphänomen" (as Gottfried Benn first described George, then more famously Nietzsche) - the paper highlights this role on te basis of documents hitherto ignored by scholars or not linked to this intellectual constellation.
