Abstract

Ancient World, and mainly Hellenistic and Roman civilizations, have known an advanced theoretical research, but a very limited practical application in terms of technological progress, with the exception of the military sphere. We propose that this fact is the consequence of many cultural prejudices, but also of others factors, such as a stable demography and an economic complexity that did not develop at the level of pushing technology innovation to improve production.
