In this paper, we show how we can model and generate musical scores by means of formal models. The kind of models we use is an ad hoc arrangement of Petri nets and a music algebra; music objects are associated to place nodes; music transformations are described by algorithms associated to transition nodes and are coded by expressions which are based on the set of operators and the syntactic rules we have defined. Musical structures are described by means of hierarchical, timed, concurrent, deterministic/non-deterministic and weighted Petri nets models; both places and transitions are used as the morphism nodes to implement hierarchy. This approach allows us to describe music objects and their transformations at various levels of representation.
