Presentation of some previously unknown archaeological activities of the French Egyptologist Augiste Mariette, on the basis of the 137 unpublished letters sent by Mariette to H. Brugsch between 1850 and 1881, kept in the Archives of the Università degli Studi di Milano. Very important is the analysis of a letter in which the organization of the Antiquities Service and the creation of the first Egyptian Museum in Cairo is illustrated.
