A relationship between the number of holes and the number of fungivorous fly larvae found on samples of marketable and discarded dried mushrooms was investigated. A correlation was found only in 37.5% of the samples formed by cap of marketable mushrooms; no correlation was recorded in the samples formed by cap of discarded mushroom, as well as in the ones including discarded or marketable stalks. Larvae are mostly found in the mushroom caps. This occurs in all the samples of marketable mushrooms and in 81.2% of discarded samples. On the contrary holes are more frequent in the stalks (in 75% of the marketable samples and in 81.2% of the discarded samples). In 62.5% of the marketable samples most of the holes are found in the tubules; most of the larvae (87.5% of the samples) are present in the same tubules. In 6.2% of cases the highest number of larvae was found in the flesh. Most of the larvae were found in the tubules (62.5% of the samples) and they were smaller than 2 mm. On the contrary a certain variability occurred in the flesh, In 68.8% of marketable samples larvae smaller than 2 mm are more numerous, while 75% of the discarded samples showed a higher number of larvae larger than 2 mm.
