I Ricordi di Questura di Giorio e gli anni Ottanta nella Milano dell'Ottocento

This paper tells the story of a famous pamphlet, Ricordi di Questura, published by former policeman Giorio in 1882. The book of Giorio collects examples and stories on inefficiency, corruption and violence in police offices, especially in Milan. These stories were often true, but not very circumstantial, other times they were probably invented. The book, in fact, had above all polemical intentions, but precisely because of its outrageous style raised protests, also provoking a trial against the author. The same process was followed with great interest by the public and the press, and ended with the seizure of the book and a conviction for Giorio, that some witnesses had accused of embezzlement when he was in active police service. Furthermore, the article inserts the book of Giorio in the framework of the rising literary genre of police memorials, which already had some success in the British world and in France.
