Chronic musculoskeletal diseases are the most common cause of severe long-term pain and physical disability. Injection procedures for the soft tissues around the foot and ankle are reviewed. US-guided steroid injections could be performed in order to reduce inflammation and to treat patient’s pain. The technical principles and injection techniques used for diagnostic or therapeutic reason are discussed including injection approach, choice of equipment, quantity of pharmaceuticals and appropriate aftercare as well as possible procedure-related symptoms.
