Abstract

In the corpus of works that transmit their story, Ami and Amile are not only bound by affection and absolute devotion, but they look almost identical, although they are not twins, nor even relatives. This resemblance is a key factor, both for the identity exchanges between them, and for the symmetrical arrangement of their movements. ere are nevertheless, scattered in the texts, some elements that set them apart, or even oppose them. The paper focuses on these clues of alterity, their functions and the changes they face in the succession of rewritings.
