The short incipit of the Dialogue of Plotinus and Porphyry by Giacomo Leopardi is the Italian translation cum variatione of a passage from the Vita Plotini by Porphyry. The study investigates criteria and methods of the translation, noting and discussing in particular the points in which Leopardi's text departs from the Greek text. Furthermore, the study considers the extension of Leopardi's reference to the Greek text: the selection made by the author represents a precise compositional and substantial choice.
La cornice del Dialogo di Plotino e di Porfirio di Giacomo Leopardi traduce cum variatione un passo della Vita Plotini di Porfirio. Lo studio indaga criteri e modalità di traduzione, rilevando e discutendo in particolare i punti in cui Leopardi si stacca dal testo greco. Inoltre, lo studio considera l'estensione della ripresa leopardiana: la selezione operata dall'autore rispetto allo sviluppo del testo greco rappresenta una precisa scelta compositiva e sostanziale.
