"Vita e morale militare" : le lezioni di Luigi Russo per gli allievi ufficiali

Luigi Russo, who would become one of the most influential Italian literary critics of the Twentieth Century, was at the front during the first years of World War I. In 1917, he was called back from the frontline and sent to Caserta's Military School, where he was appointed to teach « Military Life and Ethics ». His lectures were promptly collected in a book, which enjoyed a great success. This essay analyses Russo's lectures in relation to their cultural context and the debates about the war ; it highlights their relationship with the thought of Croce and Gentile, and it recognizes in them some features of Russo's subsequent critical production.
