Streptomyces M281 produces, in aerated liquid cultures, a substance which has been extracted and purified. The antibiotic M281 inhibits the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in glycerol-containing media, but not in those containing glucose. It has been proved that M281 induces respiratory-deficient (RD) phenocopies with high efficiency. The antibiotic inhibits succinate dehydrogenase and possibly some other enzyme between succinate dehydrogenase and cytochrome c.

Abstract
Streptomyces M281 produces, in aerated liquid cultures, a substance which has been extracted and purified. The antibiotic M281 inhibits the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in glycerol-containing media, but not in those containing glucose. It has been proved that M281 induces respiratory-deficient (RD) phenocopies with high efficiency. The antibiotic inhibits succinate dehydrogenase and possibly some other enzyme between succinate dehydrogenase and cytochrome c.Pubblicazioni consigliate
