A diagnostic study-epidemiological to verify the localization of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the participants at the Meeting of the Italian Society of Pathology and Farming of Pigs (SIPAS) has been activated. 117 participants have voluntarily placed a nasal swab prior informed consent. 49 strains of MRSA have been selectively isolated; they have been processed in rep-PCR together with 17 isolates from tonsils of the slaughterhouse pigs and have been classified into 6 genomic patterns. In two of these isolates from the two species are present. One of the pattern comprises 29 human-derived strains and 12 of swine origin, confirming the ability of interspecies infection of MRSA. Some observations on the results of epidemiological study were developed and same considerations on biological risk and its prevention were finally generated.
